Frequently Asked Questions FAQ

Photograph Restoration

What does digital photo restoration mean?
A digital image is recorded of the orignal photograph, most usually by a scanner, and then the digital image is manipulated via software on the computer to repair damage or to enhance or change some aspect of the image.
Will my original photograph by damaged or altered in any way?
Not at all, the photograph is scanned to obtain the digital image and will always be returned to the client in safe condition.
What can you do?
Almost anthing! I will tell you honestly what can be done and am happy to give a no-obligation quote on viewing the original file or photo. Your photos may be faded, torn, perhaps they have a colour shift - blue, red or orange. Perhaps there is an unwanted item in the background, or even an unwanted person in the photo, or you may wish to have a person added in! Spots and wrinkles can be erased, teeth can be whitened, a dark photo can be made brighter.
What can't you do?
I often get asked if I can sharpen an out-of-focus photo. Yes a moderately fuzzy photo can be enhanced but unfortunately if the visual information is not there in the first place then what you want is digital "painting", not restoration.
How much will it be?
My pricing is very reasonable and is calculated according to the amount of time that the restoration or retouching will take. I am happy to give a no-obligation free quote on viewing your photo or image file. Bulk orders are taken into consideration and trade enquiries are welcome.
How do I get my photo to you?
Please contact me for an appointment at my premises, conveniently located 30 minutes drive south of Brisbane's CBD. Alternatively you may scan your photo and email the file to me. JPG format is fine but please ensure that it is of a high resolution; at least 300 dpi, (even higher if you wish your photo enlarged) and make sure your photo and scanner are wiped clean (with a dry lint-free cloth) of any dust first!
What if my photo is stuck to the glass in its photo frame?
Firstly, DON'T PANIC! and whatever you do don't try to peel it off! It can be scanned right through the glass, and then may only require minor retouching. If you have already peeled off the photo and there is damage this can most probably be repaired, please contact me for advice.
